The CGST Commissionerate, Rajkot which has come into existence w.e.f. 01.07.2017 is headed by the Commissioner, CGST, Rajkot and deals with the task of administration of GST & Central Excise Duty in districts of Rajkot, Morbi, Jamnagar and Dev Bhoomi Dwarka. The Commissionerate has one Sub-Commissionerate at Jamnagar and has six Divisions in all.
Rajkot Commissionerate was carved out from the Central Excise & Customs Commissionerate Ahmedabad, in the year 1983 covering the regions of Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Surendrangar and Gandhidham. Subsequently in the year 2002, a part of the Commissionerate covering the areas of Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Junagadh was bifurcated to create the Bhavnagar Commissionerate. In the year 2014, the Kutch Commissionerate was carved out from the Rajkot Commissionerate covering the areas of Gandhidham, Kutch & Bhuj. Central Excise & Service Tax Commissionerate of Rajkot was functioning with four Central Excise and One Service Tax Divisions until the formation of the Central GST Commissionerate w.e.f. 01.07.2017.
The Rajkot CGST & Central Excise Commissionerate is functioning at ‘Central GST Bhavan’, Race Course Ring Road, Rajkot, which is in the heart of Rajkot City. It is at a distance of about 2 Km from the Rajkot Airport, about 3 km from the Rajkot Railway Station and about 5 km from the State Transport Bus Terminus. The office is operating in a six storied building which also has the Office of the Commissioner(Appeals), Rajkot, functioning from 2nd floor.
Rajkot Central GST Commissionerate has a taxpayers base of 47500 as on June – 2019 out of which 13729 are migrated taxpayers and 33772 are new taxpayers.
The Commissionerate deals with commodities like Ceramic products, Machining and Mechanical Appliances, Items of Iron & Steel Products, Plastic and articles thereof and Raw Cotton and other products of Cottons.
